Will I Get A High School Diploma?

As a hybrid Homeschool/Traditional School environment we do not provide high school diplomas but here's the great thing. If you want one there are ways to get it but contrary to popular belief, you don't need it.

Wait, I don't need it?

That's correct - many teens who switch to the creative schooling path can create transcripts and/or portfolios. It's something we have a lot of experience with, and we can help.

But what if my teen still wants one?

Public school isn't the only way to get one. There are umbrella schools (Accredited schools that will take your transcript/portfolio and turn it into a grade and credit towards a diploma from that school), Clonlara and NARHS just to name a couple (https://clonlara.org/, https://www.narhs.com/). Or they can take the Hi-Set or GED test to get a high school equivalency certificate.

What if my child wants to go back to traditional schooling?

It's pretty seamless. Traditional schools aren't in the business of turning kids away or holding them back grades. They might have to take a placement test to see where they're at, but the truth is that many of their peers who were at public school forget much of the content they learned the year before over the summer. So your child will not feel 'left behind' - in most cases, kids who've attended BSLC have learned invaluable self-direction and problem-solving skills that serve them well in any environment where they are placed in (including the real world).

What About College?

Will my teen get into college?

The short answer is, if they want to, it's a resounding YES! Some students decide to go right into the workplace while at BSLC and pursue higher education at a later date when they're ready to make that 'Big Decision'. But for those who want college right away, they will get in. Like traditional schools, most colleges are not in the business of trying to restrict students from coming and self-directed/unschooled kids tend to be more mature and more focused in a university environment. Some will engage in dual enrollment, which is a way of saying they are enrolled in high school and community college concurrently. They can actually work towards their high school diploma and an associate's degree at the same time, which looks really great on a student's resume.
