First off I'd like to announce that we are officially up to 23 members attending BSLC on opening day. This is a great deal more than we expected, and a lot of the reason for it is the fantastic outreach efforts made by our community. Keep up the good work!
We've been hard at work on the space and accomplished quite a bit. We buffed down the floors, cleaned out the space, and painted two of our rooms. We've also had some generous donations including a beautiful set of lounge furniture for our common area, which came to us through a donation from one of our families and sizable discount from Bob Russo at the Furniture Clearance Center in East Providence. Other families have contributed 6 flat screen computer monitors, a microwave oven, a refrigerator, school supplies, art supplies, cleaning supplies, area rugs and lots of elbow grease. A ton of thanks to Ellen, Pam, Chris, Will, Elizabeth, Sophie, Madeline Avery, Jonathan, Tonya, Nate, Amber, Noah, Debbie and anyone else who contributed to this huge effort. If I forgot anyone I apologize, it's only because I'm too busy making all the necessary preparations.
Tomorrow and Thursday we are doing a few more things in the space, cleaning, decorating and arranging. We need to go through what we have, figure out what we still need, set up some book shelves, and pick up a few more items we have gotten off craigslist. We may also have a little light gardening to do as well. If you have the time and want to come out and help any time between 9:00 and 3:00 in the next two days we would appreciate it.
We also have a few more things we could use if anyone has them. Though we have had a few computers (desk top towers) donated, it turns out that we can only use some of them. So if you have any used computers to donate we would love to have a look at them. We would like to have at least a few computer work stations for our members that don't have their own laptops or tablets.
